Cara Olecka,
Dear Olija,
[…] Nature is the best purifier. One can uselessly stay in the room many days, while one single hour spent in the wild will let you understand what you could not get earlier. Ideas and understanding grow up and mature, as plants; you should not trade with them too much. By waiting with patient till an idea becomes mature, you get a true value, but giving hardly rise to an idea, you risk following into an apparent value, which weighs down intellect and prevents the growth of what is truly useful. Do not rush and take care with peace of mind of your growth: do not waste time in empty, but ether hurry up your growth, everything will come in its time.

Dickinson – 1478
Look back on Time, with kindly eyes –
He doubtless did his best –
How softly sinks that trembling sun
In Human Nature’s West –
Pensa al tempo passato benevolmente –
ha senz’altro fatto il suo meglio –
con che dolcezza il sole tremulo affonda
nell’occidente della natura umana –EMILY DICKINSON – POEMS, 1478
P. A. Florenskij – 8 Aprile 1934
Cara Olija,
Dear Olija,
[…] Grow up, study, evolve, learn to take part to the best part of mankind: that is the goal. It might be that M.A. does not believe you will further improve more as musician. So what? Is not it worth to work to achieve the goal I mentioned to you? Neither her, nor anyone else, can foresee with confidence how the the studies will result. It happens quite often that even eminent skills, which have manifested themselves brilliantly at first, later on decay; or at the contrary, there might be a sudden wakes up of skills after a limp and dull beginning. But nobody can predict in advance neither the first nor the second outcome, and in neither case one has to give up the work. Bad is only when the reason, instead of being the interest in the work itself, is the vanity and self-love which replaces the reality with the person himself. I want to warn you exactly about this. Bury the plant, water it, take care of it, and all the rest, entrust it to a organizing force, such that it yields what it can yield. Do not stop it, do not urge it, be peaceful. Nothing is lost in the world, and the work always brings its fruit, even if often it is quite different from what you wished to get.Pavel a. florenskij – letters from the gulag 1933-1937

Cara Olecka,
Vorrei esserci come uno stelo
Vorrei esserci come uno stelo
spuntato per caso
esserti accanto
sul ciglio della strada
dove si accalcano i ciottoli
insieme alle noie della vita
note che si scostano
mentre passi
a frenare la tua quotidianità
con la forza semplice di uno stelo
vorrei esserci
sul ciglio della strada
che tende un sorriso
come un petalo appena spuntato
lì vorrei esserci come uno stelo.
¬ Anna A Sulgreto ¬
I would like to be there as a stem
springed up by chance
to be beside you
on the side of the road
where the pebbles crowd
together with the troubles of life
notes that move away
when you pass by
to curb your daily life
with the simple strength of a stem
I would like to be there
on the side of the road
lending a smile
as a petal just popped up
there, I would like to be there as a stem.

Quante vie non percorse
Quante vie non percorse
quanti sentieri resi sbagli
con la sola testa china
a sradicare la stessa via
quella creduta più giusta.
Quanti nidi svaniti nell’inverno
quanti intrecci rovistati
un’altra primavera
a fingerli diversi
solo per riscoprili più belli.
Quanti torrioni innalzati
quante feritoie ad osservare
con lentissima pazienza
un pellegrino senso
alle porte del passato.
Quanti sguardi a ricamare
quanti bordi consumati
un’altra cura
a ripararli con nuove aurore
pieghe dal saio nascosto di altre pene.
¬ Anna A Sulgreto ¬
How many ways never walked
how many paths made mistakes
with only your head bowed
to uproot the same road
that believed more just.
How many nests vanished in the winter
how many rummaged weaves
another spring
to pretend them different
just to rediscover them more beautiful.
How many towers raised
how many loopholes to observe
with very slow patience
a pilgrim meaning
at past doors.
How many sights embroidering
how many edges worn out
another care
to repair them with new dawns
folds from the hidden habit of other pains.

The Luxury to apprehend
The Luxury ‘twould be
To look at Thee a single time
An Epicure of MeIn whatsoever Presence makes
Till for a further Food
I scarcely recollect to starve
So first am I supplied –The Luxury to meditate
The Luxury it was
To banquet on thy Countenance
A Sumptuousness bestowsOn plainer Days, whose Table far
As Certainty can see
Is laden with a single Crumb
The Consciousness of Thee.
nell’eccessivo foraggiamento.
Non è mio
questo lasciarsi andare
di rivoli cristallini
in fertili lagune
nè questi nidi spiccati
in appena dischiusi voli.
Non è mia
nemmeno questa piccola vita
oltre questo ruggito regale
tra aride zolle di cacciatori
un’atmosfera oltre il cielo
fa risuonare – oltre il mio – moltissimi nomi.
¬ Anna A Sulgreto ¬
It is not mine
this loneliness of the world
of the bare rock
knocked by the wave never seen
of the ant, aged
in an excessive foraging.
It is not mine
this indulging
of crystalline rivulets
into fertile lagoons
nor these nests standing out
just disclosed nests.
It is not mine
either this small life
beyond this royal roar
among arid clods of hunters
– a faraway atmosphere
resonates many other names beyond mine.

Non lo sai
Non lo sai
non la conosci neppure
quella tua rorida bellezza
gli altri la raccolgono
per te
in ogni deliquio abisso
del tuo minuto sguardo
non si afferra
lungo le tue curve flessibili
si scorta
con le mani giunte
pronte ad accoglierti
lì
dove a volte ti schiudi
nella tua spontaneità
fa spazio
essenziale
e questo basta
ma tu non lo sai.
¬ Anna A Sulgreto ¬
You do not know it
you do not even recognize it
your dewy beauty
others collect it
for you
in every swooning abyss
of your tiny glance
does not stop
along your flexible curves
we escort it
with two joined hands
ready to welcome you
there
where time to time you hatch
in your spontaneity
it creates space
essential space
and this is enough
but you do not know it.
